David Wray (Musical Director)David Wray trained at Lancaster University and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London. He has since worked as a pianist and musical director and arranger in the fields of Opera and Musical Theatre. He was assistant to the director of the English Bach Festival, London, for three years, with whom he appeared in many productions at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and throughout Europe. Music Direction credits include: Dido and Aeneas (Queen Elizabeth Hall, London), Handel’s Acis and Galatea (QEH, London and Barcelona), L’Egisto (National Concert Hall, Dublin), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Olympia Theatre, Dublin), Side by Side by Sondheim (Temple Bar Music Centre, Dublin / Everyman Theatre, Cork), The Hot Mikado (Olympia Theatre), A Chelsea Affair (Theatre Space, Dublin), and Just Bodies for the Irish Modern Dance Theatre, for which he also composed and arranged the music (RHA, Dublin / Irish National Tour). In 1998, David formed a new company, Music Theatre Ireland. He has produced, directed, and arranged numerous prodcuctions since that time: Kander and Ebbs, The World Goes Round, Red Hot & Cole, The Glorious MGM Musicals, The Great American Songwriters Series (National Concert Hall, Dublin), Noel and Gertie (Opera Fringe Northern Ireland / Bewley’s Café Theatre), A New York Songbook (Pavillion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire / Irish National Tour), Simply Sondheim (Opera Fringe Festival Northern Ireland / BBC recording / Liberty Hall Theatre, Dublin), and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (Andrews Lane Theatre, Dublin / King’s Head Theatre, London). In addition to his work with DRUID, David is currently the Musical Director and Arranger for Opera in the Open, Dublin, as well as the Three Irish Tenors. With the Tenors, he has recorded two albums and toured extensively throughout Ireland, Europe, North America, and Asia. David directs the American songstress Danna Davis and recently collaborated with her on a recording project and one-woman show. Together they released a highly acclaimed album “…From New York” in the Autumn of 2005. |
